Like other network devices vendors, you can run pings on a Forigate using one of the interfaces IP addresses as your source IP. The commands and the way to do this on Fortigate is different from most vendors, like Cisco, and that is what this post is about.
With most vendors, you can specify a source IP or an interface within a single statement to accomplish your task. However, with Fortigate, you need two separate statements to successfully source your ping from an interface’s IP address.
Sourcing from an IP Address
To source your pings from an interface’s IP address, you need to first specify your source IP address, then execute the actual ping. Commands are entered in the terminal mode of the Fortigate. See commands below.
